CANCELED due to weather forecast

The next Vernon Crawford Inventors and Entrepreneurs (I&E) Club meeting is Wednesday, December 9th Western Technical College at 220 South Main Street, Viroqua Come early to network at 5:30, the program starts at 6:00 pm. Everyone is welcome!

The topic will be "Building a Business on Your Values" with Richard de Wilde of Harmony Valley Farm.

De Wilde was raised on 650 acre dairy, beef and grain farm near South Shore, South Dakota and received college degrees in Engineering and Education. He started an organic vegetable farming business in 1973 in Eagan, Minnesota and moved to Harmony Valley Farm in 1984 where he currently grows over 120 acres of organic, fresh market vegetables. Well before organic and sustainable practices were part of the mainstream, de Wilde used farming techniques that worked with natural systems such as companion planting, composting and green manures to improve soil health, and employing natural predators to control pests. Building a business on values meant not only focusing on environmental sustainability but social sustainability through employee friendly practices. Providing steady employment, a living wage, and housing are an important part of the Harmony Valley's business ethic. To expand awareness of the farm's social and environmental choices, they publish a newsletter and a blog and host workshops and tours.
