The winter solstice marks a day to remember those less fortunate.  As you tuck yourself into your warm bed tonite, say a prayer for all those who have no place to lay their head in warmth, comfort and safety on this longest night of the year.  (via June Kjome)

Hello friends,
Yesterday I sent along a flyer telling about a vigil for the homeless held in La
Crosse.  A friend of mine, Jo, attended it .  This is her comment:

Thanks  for the information on the Salvation Army vigil.  It was a moving
experience to see a candle lit for each of the seven homeless people who died in La
Crosse in the past year, and to hear their names and ages -- from teenage to the
60s.  Homelessness is a condition that doesn't discriminate based on age.

Then in the afternoon a friend visisted me who told about volunteering at the
Salvation Army, where they sleep 50 men on mattresses on the floor each nite.
Women and children fill the rooms in the homeless shelter. This is one of the
richest and powerful countries in the world!!!     June
